This album is a heartfelt tribute to one of South Africa’s most distinguished organists, Wim Viljoen (Prof.). Recorded on the magnificent organ of NG Universiteitsoord, Pretoria, where Viljoen served as organist for thirty years, the album presents for the first time his complete works—a small but profoundly expressive collection that captures the depth and beauty of his musical language.
For Dr. Isabelle van Rensburg, this project is deeply personal. Having studied with Viljoen for fourteen years and now serving as his successor at NG Universiteitsoord, she honours his legacy that reveal his craftsmanship, lyricism, and love for the chorale tradition.
The recording features five organ compositions, two descants, and a choral setting of Psalm 8, performed with violinist Zanta Hofmeyr—a long-time musical collaborator of Viljoen—and the acclaimed Chanticleer Singers under the direction of Esté Meerkotter. The result is a luminous collection that celebrates faith, artistry, and South Africa’s rich organ heritage.
